About the Department

The Dedicated Education Unit (DEU) at Grady is a specialized acute care environment designed for nursing students, supported by clinical nurses who serve as mentors. This unit enables nursing students from Georgia State to engage directly with registered nurses, fostering a pathway to employment after graduation. Senior practicum students benefit from hands-on experience with the facility's equipment, protocols, and processes, enhancing their candidacy for future roles. Students take charge of their learning and assist in peer education, while registered nurses oversee patient care and guide students. Faculty members ensure that students receive pertinent learning experiences and assess their progress.

Role Summary

The Nursing Unit Supervisor reports to the Clinical Staff Manager and is responsible for planning, directing, and evaluating nursing care and operations within a specific unit or during a designated shift. This role involves coordinating unit activities, organizing tasks, and assigning responsibilities to nursing personnel. The Supervisor assesses, monitors, and provides education to the nursing team regarding patient care. Responsibilities include delegating, coordinating, and adjusting patient assignments as necessary. In alignment with the Clinical Staff Manager's directives, the Supervisor works to improve throughput, quality, and customer service within their area. Emergency procedures are implemented as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent education and experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in the State of Georgia.
  • If holding an Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN), a minimum of four (4) years of direct patient care RN experience, including in a supervisory capacity.
  • For those with a BSN, at least two (2) years of direct patient care RN experience in a supervisory role is preferred.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider Card is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is necessary for specific areas within 90 days of employment or transfer.
