Job Summary

As a key member of the Waste Management team, the Plant Operations Manager III, Materials Recycling Facility will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of environmental safety and operational excellence at the assigned Materials Recycling Facility (MRF). This includes effectively managing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and material movement of the facility, while maintaining cost management within the MRF.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure smooth operation of the site, including gatehouse, sorting, and loading.
  • Culture Development: Drive a culture of ownership, engagement, and continuous improvement at the site.
  • Housekeeping and Maintenance: Implement a 'clean as you go' housekeeping plan and ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property of the MRF.
  • Leadership and Development: Develop and empower all site personnel, focusing on visible felt leadership and employee development.
  • Cost Management: Minimize handling and operational costs, and continually work to reduce turnaround time for trucks in and out of the site.
  • Quality and Safety: Ensure timely completion of quality audits and address variances, while maintaining a strong focus on safety and adhering to WM's Mission to Zero standards and regulations.
  • Human Resources: Oversee personnel needs of the MRF, including selecting, coaching, and training employees, evaluating employee performance, and providing input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Submit reasonable budget information and analyze data versus year-to-date data and prior year budget.
Supervisory Responsibilities

The Plant Operations Manager III, Materials Recycling Facility will have direct supervision of approximately 4 full-time employees, including Operations Managers and Plant Maintenance Manager, and indirect supervision of approximately 40 full-time employees, including Plant Maintenance Technicians, Sorters, Equipment Operators, Scale House Attendant, Operations Specialist, etc.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, the candidate must have:

  • Education: A Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, a High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience: 7 years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
