Suffolk County, NY is seeking a skilled Maintenance Mechanic II to join our team. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing sub-craftsman level maintenance and repair work in various buildings and mechanical crafts areas.
Key Responsibilities- Perform maintenance and repair work in electricity, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, boiler operation, masonry, and welding areas
- Assist with airfield and building maintenance, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, mechanical, welding, airfield lighting, approach lighting, masonry, vehicle maintenance, landscaping, and operation of airport equipment and vehicles
- Operate airfield equipment and vehicles, including airfield tractors, loaders, bucket truck, skid steer, and snow removal equipment
- Assist with equipment and vehicle maintenance, including two-way radio communication
- Perform related work as required
- Either: completion of two years of vocational education courses in a vocational school program or in an apprentice or training program in one of the craft areas, or two years of experience in minor maintenance or repair work, or an equivalent combination of education, or training, and experience
- Good knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods, and practices of the trade areas to which the incumbent is assigned
- Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and to interpret and work from rough sketches
- Ability to make rough estimates of time and material requirements
- Ability to develop skill in the use and care of the tools, materials, and equipment of the trade area concerned
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position
