Job Summary

CommonSpirit Health is seeking a skilled Financial Counselor to join our team. As a Financial Counselor, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive the financial support they need to access quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Analysis and Eligibility Determination: Conduct thorough financial analyses to determine patient eligibility for insurance enrollment and/or financial assistance programs.
  • Customer Service and Communication: Respond to patient inquiries and concerns in a professional and timely manner, providing clear explanations of charges and financial options.
  • Payment Processing and Collection: Collect and process payments, including credit card payments, and ensure accurate day-end deposits and reconciliations.
  • Financial Assistance and Application Processing: Review program guidelines and assist patients with financial assistance applications, gathering required documentation and processing applications in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Collection and Follow-up: Ensure collection of self-pay accounts and follow up on past due bills, utilizing established collection procedures.
  • Insurance Enrollment and Coordination: Assist patients in enrolling in qualifying insurance programs, including AHCCCS and other insurance programs.
  • Team Collaboration and Support: Participate in business division meetings, performance improvement activities, and committees as assigned, providing backup support to the front desk as needed.
Requirements
  • Education: High School graduate or GED
  • Experience: One year of hospital or clinic insurance billing or collection experience, or one year of healthcare customer service experience with hospital business office experience preferred
  • Certifications: Certified Application Counselor certification obtained within six months of hire
  • Skills: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, basic computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Windows and MS Office
