Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Inspector to join our team at the City of Bloomington, MN. As an Electrical Inspector, you will be responsible for reviewing electrical plans and conducting inspections to ensure compliance with the adopted electrical code requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review permit applications, plans, specifications, and engineering calculations to ensure they meet the electrical code requirements
  • Conduct electrical inspections to ensure compliance with the adopted electrical code requirements
  • Interpret and explain City ordinances and state codes to homeowners, realtors, architects, engineers, contractors, and developers
  • Perform routine or specialized inspections for housing code compliance
  • Maintain and expand electrical code knowledge and skills with continuing education
  • Verify contractor licensing is within state code compliance for permit and plan issuance
  • Review and recommend amendments to ordinances and codes
  • Create and maintain logs and records
  • Assist Division Manager in training employees
Requirements
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Electrical trade experience, as a MN State Class A Journeyworker or MN State Class A Master Electrician
  • Current MN State Class A Journeyworker or MN State Class A Master Electrician
  • Valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  • IAEI certified electrical inspector
  • MN Limited Building Official license
  • Two years of electrical inspection experience
  • Five years of electrical trade experience, as a MN State Class A Journeyworker or MN State Class A Master Electrician
Working Conditions and Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to lift up to 25 pounds. The position also requires the ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
