Seasonal Lifeguard III

Job Summary

This is a seasonal supervisory position at the City of Sunrise swimming pools. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the work of subordinate lifeguards, providing assistance in difficult or unusual water safety problems, and ensuring the maintenance of skills and physical endurance of lifeguards.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to and oversee various types of pool-oriented emergencies, including incidents, accidents, and activity reports.
• Prepare and maintain accurate records, including incident reports, activity logs, and statistical summaries.
• Inspect emergency life-support equipment, identify and correct substandard operating conditions, and ensure operational efficiency.
• Enforce local ordinances and general rules regarding water safety, maintain daily maintenance and pool chemical usage logs, and ensure compliance with established departmental and public safety policies and procedures.
• Supervise subordinate lifeguards through work assignment, inspection, and performance evaluation, maintain employee discipline, and obtain optimal utilization of manpower.
• Conduct daily physical fitness programs, ensure the maintenance of required skills and physical endurance for job assignment, train subordinate lifeguards in new or existing lifesaving techniques and first aid methods, and promote operational effectiveness.
• Operate a swimming pool recirculation system, fresh water make-up and over-flow systems, and filter cleaning system.
• Participate in performing custodial tasks as applies to pool decks and surfaces, offices, locker rooms, bath houses, and other support buildings.
• Conduct chemical tests for pool water quality and monitor pool water temperatures.
• Apply chemicals to maintain water quality standards, vacuum pool, and clean pool walls and backwash pool filters.
• Answer inquiries from pool patrons and provide assistance when needed.
• May operate and clean pool filtration equipment.
• Collect pool admission and registration fees.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited high school or G.E.D. equivalency diploma.
• Proof of the highest level of completed education must be submitted as an attachment with application.
• At least three (3) seasons (960 work hours) of full-time (or equivalent) paid experience as a lifeguard.
• Possession of a current Lifeguard Training Certification, which includes CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid or equivalent.
• Water safety instructor's certificate preferred.
