Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This position is in Topeka KS within the Bureau of Structures and Geotechnical Services with the Kansas Department of Transportation.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Acts in direct support of the Bridge Evaluation Engineer.
- Coordinates and communicates with others in KDOT, State and Federal Agencies, Consultants, and the public.
- Direct management of bridge load raters to check load rating of new and existing structures on the State Highway System to ensure load ratings meet Agency Policy as well as Federal and State guidelines.
- Reviews plans from in-house squads and Consultants, reviews Consultant load ratings models, directs others who review in-house and Consultant plans and load ratings models.
- Work with K-TRIPS software developers to maintain and improve the software.
- Takes escalated calls received in the call center from users and resolves complicated issues.
- Coaches, develops, and mentors staff to meet division or agency mission, goals, and objectives.
- Evaluates performance of team members, developing team members, documenting accomplishments, and recommending disciplinary action when needed.
- Special assignments include providing permitting data requested by FHWA each year, completing special requests from other bureaus, writing legislative fiscal notes, executing executive orders pertaining to OSOW permitting, updating/revising Kansas regulations related to Oversize/Overweight Permitting, and assisting with economic development plans that include the use of OSOW loads.

Qualifications:
Education
- College degree in Engineering and a Professional Engineers License recognized by the State of Kansas
Licensing & Certificate
- Valid Driver's License
- Professional Engineers License recognized by the State of Kansas
Minimum Qualifications
- Professional Engineering License recognized by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions and four years of experience in engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to navigate and interpret Kansas Statutes and Regulations.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
