Job Summary

SpaceX is seeking a highly skilled Automation & Controls Specialist to join our team at Starbase. As a key member of our infrastructure team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and activating new automation projects, as well as troubleshooting and remediating problems with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Automation Project Development: Design and implement new automation projects, including mechanical assembly, wiring, pneumatics routing, I/O checkouts, and production qualification.
  • Electrical and Pneumatic Schematics: Create, update, and modify electrical, pneumatic, and fluid schematics to ensure efficient and safe system operation.
  • Troubleshooting and Remediation: Identify and resolve problems with mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, HMI's, and PLC's to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
  • Industrial Electrical Control Panels: Design, build, and troubleshoot new industrial electrical control panels to meet the needs of our Starbase infrastructure.
  • PLC and HMI Software Applications: Design, commission, and troubleshoot PLC and HMI software applications to optimize system performance and user experience.
Requirements
  • Education: High school degree or equivalency certificate.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in industrial automation and design (electrical, oil/gas, and/or utilities).
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree: Possess an associate or bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Occupational Trade School Qualification: Possess an occupational trade school qualification in an electrical-based field.
  • Code Knowledge: Knowledge of NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code), NFPA 70E (Standard for Electrical Safety), NFPA 79, and UL508A codes.
  • PLC Wiring and Programming: Experience with PLC wiring and programming (Allen Bradley, Siemens, and/or SEL Rtac).
  • HMI, SCADA, and IoT Experience: Experience with HMI, SCADA, IoT (MQTT, OPC-UA), and/or ignition systems with a focus on user-friendly navigation and industrial process monitoring/control.
  • Field Bus Networks and Communication: Experience with field bus networks, serial communication, and ethernet communication.
  • Industrial Protocols: Knowledge of industrial protocols including Modbus, DNP, TCP/IP, Profinet, Goose, C synchrophasor), bacnet, and/or SNMP.
  • IEDs and Relational Databases: Experience with IEDs utilized for electrical protection and instrumentation, as well as relational databases (SQL).
  • Programming Skills: Expertise with Python programming.
Additional Requirements
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to stoop, bend, crawl, and maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Lifting Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
  • Work Schedule: Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
