POSITION SUMMARY

The role involves executing standard security responsibilities to ensure a secure atmosphere for the entire Loras College community and its guests, while also safeguarding all College facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Conducting patrols across the campus, performing random inspections of residence halls, parking areas, and all other campus buildings to ensure the safety and security of facilities and grounds.
  • Engaging with individuals who appear suspicious or lack a clear purpose on campus, ensuring that facility usage is restricted to authorized personnel only.
  • Documenting all activities, including breaks, in the security log and submitting incident reports related to significant campus events or student misconduct accurately and promptly.
  • Utilizing communication devices and flashlights while on duty.
  • Monitoring for vandalism, trespassers, fire hazards, water leaks, or other unusual incidents that could result in property damage.
  • Issuing traffic and parking citations to offenders and providing escorts upon request.
  • Offering assistance to individuals on campus requiring security services in a professional manner.
  • Collaborating with law enforcement or fire departments during serious incidents on campus in a competent manner.
  • Participating in special events as scheduled or performing routine patrols during events that do not necessitate a dedicated security officer.
  • Ensuring that security operations are conducted in accordance with established College policies, procedures, and relevant legal standards.
  • Promptly notifying supervisors and/or administration of serious activities or emergencies.
  • Providing relief for staff at the information desk, which necessitates excellent communication skills both in person and over the phone.
  • Supporting the mission and vision of the College while honoring its Catholic heritage.
  • Carrying out additional duties as assigned.

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience: Two to four years of relevant experience.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Certificates & Licenses: Must obtain CPR and AED certification. A valid driver's license is required. Must successfully pass a police background check.


Additional Requirements: Proficient in using personal computers and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with security equipment and regulations. Understanding of College security requirements and systems. Knowledge of procedures related to building and grounds security. Awareness of the Loras student handbook and privacy regulations. Ability to interact courteously and tactfully with students, staff, and the public. Persistence and capability to work under stress. Attention to detail and ability to assist others. Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
