About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented professional to facilitate modifications to clinical documentation through extensive interactions with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team. Your primary goal will be to ensure that appropriate reimbursement and clinical severity are captured for the level of service rendered to all patients with a DRG-based payer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Improve the overall quality and completeness of clinical documentation
  • Facilitate modifications to clinical documentation through interactions with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals
  • Evaluate patient charts to determine whether care given was appropriate and properly documented
  • Interpret regulations and standards for others
  • Write reports, meeting minutes, and other technical documents
  • Analyze statistical and quantitative data
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Option 1: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and five years of clinical nursing experience and three years of clinical documentation improvement experience
  • Option 2: Physician graduate International MD with 5 years of acute care experience and 1-year Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience
  • Option 3: Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management or Health Information Technology and four years of professional coding and abstracting medical records in an acute care hospital

You must also hold one of the following certifications:

  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist (CCDS)
  • Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist-Outpatient (CCDS-O)
  • Certified Document Improvement Practitioner (CDIP)
Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Knowledge of Medicare reimbursement system and coding structures
  • Understanding of Joint Commission Accredited Healthcare Organizations standards
  • Familiarity with state statutes governing hospital services and healthcare
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
