Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Service and Repair Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical issues with heavy equipment and vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair faulty vehicle and equipment operation
  • Overhaul, adjust, and repair gaseous fuel engines, clutches, transmissions, and differentials
  • Conduct NYS inspections and perform other related duties
  • Effectively utilize department fleet management software and DOT electronic systems
  • May be required to do cutting and welding, make road calls, and test drive equipment
Requirements

Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic, or an Associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology. Substitution of education for experience may be allowed. Within one year from appointment, candidates must obtain a valid NYS Inspection Certification and a valid New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License with no air brake restriction.

Working Conditions

Overtime will be required, and during the Winter Maintenance Season, you may be placed on a shift other than the day shift. Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Additional Information

The starting salary for this position is $63,530. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $47,530 with an additional geographic pay differential of $16,000, specific to this title and location.
