Job Summary

Ryder System is seeking a highly skilled Diesel Mechanic Technician to join our team in North Charleston, South Carolina. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will be responsible for performing routine preventative maintenance, diagnosing complex mechanical and electronic problems, and completing detailed mechanical inspections and repairs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform standard vehicle maintenance and repairs, including oil changes, brake and tire work
  • Diagnose and repair complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computer tools
  • Complete detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision
  • Replace defective components as instructed
  • Work unsupervised on most tasks and interact with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints
  • Utilize key functions of Shop Management System and electronic documentation available
  • Work in accordance with all federal and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
  • Act as mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
  • Demonstrate the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents
  • Perform other support duties as required to support operations
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Vocational or Technical Certification Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications, preferred
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines
  • Three (3) years or more relevant work experience, preferred
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
  • All other certification as required by location, required
Additional Requirements
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy duty and medium duty equipment
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
