About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Civil Engineer III to join our team in the Sanitary Infrastructure Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the planning level engineering for sanitary sewer capital infrastructure projects and other sanitary sewer programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage sanitary sewer programs, including projects related to asset management of sewer collection systems, and infiltration and inflow into sanitary sewer systems;
  • Monitor sanitary sewer projects, including the work done by consultant teams, to ensure conformance with scope, schedule, and budget;
  • Ensure that projects conform to all applicable City standards and are in conformance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations;
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Project Implementation to ensure a seamless transition of projects from planning level engineering stage to design and construction;
  • Provide comprehensive reviews on engineering plans, specifications, and other engineering-related reports/documents throughout the design process, along with monitoring projects during construction;
  • Work with stakeholders, engage the community, and present information regarding sanitary-related programs to residents, outside agencies, senior staff, and City officials;
  • Assist in the development of the Sanitary Sewer Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and operating budget for the Sanitary Infrastructure Division;
  • Routinely report project progress to senior project engineer and seek assistance with project challenges;
  • Continues to grow technical knowledge in the planning level engineering and operation of sanitary sewer collection systems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or other related field and five years of professional experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities;
  • Preferred qualifications include a minimum of two (2) years of engineering experience related to sanitary sewer collection systems and being licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia or eligible to obtain Virginia registration by reciprocity.
