Join the City of Martinez as a Parks Maintenance Technician I
Contribute to the upkeep of our community parks and enhance the quality of life for residents.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, this role involves a variety of responsibilities within the Parks Division, focusing on maintaining parks and associated facilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Incumbents in this position are expected to carry out semi-skilled tasks with minimal supervision. Duties may include working independently or as part of a team, and may involve leading less experienced staff in various assignments. Weekend work may be required during peak seasons.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
1. Water landscaped areas and maintain plant health.
2. Perform planting of lawns, shrubs, and trees.
3. Load and unload materials and equipment.
4. Mow and trim grass areas, ensuring cleanliness and aesthetic appeal.
5. Remove debris and litter from park facilities and pathways.
6. Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of irrigation systems.
7. Operate light to moderately heavy power equipment, including mowers and hedge trimmers.
8. Assist in the application of pesticides and other maintenance tasks as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent, plus one year of relevant experience in parks or grounds maintenance. A valid Class B California driver's license is required or must be obtained within six months of hire.
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
Knowledge of tools and methods used in park maintenance, ability to perform manual labor, and capacity to follow both oral and written instructions.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Applications will be screened for qualifications, and those meeting the criteria may be invited to participate in further assessments.
