POSITION OVERVIEW
The Registered Nurse specializing in Critical Care within the CVICU is responsible for the independent planning, execution, and assessment of nursing care in complex patient scenarios, adhering to established standards of care, policies, and procedures. This role involves delivering direct nursing care, along with educational and leadership responsibilities. Active participation in collaborative decision-making, unit committees, and quality enhancement initiatives is expected, with minimal supervision required.

- Executes care interventions and medical directives as appropriate.
- Facilitates coordinated care delivery among team members.
- Engages in patient education to foster health and safety.

- Maintains knowledge and skills that reflect contemporary nursing practices.
- Integrates evidence-based research findings into clinical practice.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS
For Candidates with Critical Care Experience:
- At least 1 year of experience in a critical care setting.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is strongly preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
For Candidates without Critical Care Experience and New Graduate RNs:
- BSN is preferred.
- BLS certification is required from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
- ALS certification will be obtained through Advanced Life Support Training during the program.

Additional Requirements for CVRU Nurses
A minimum of 18 months of critical care experience, including post-operative open heart recovery critical care experience, is required.
