Position Overview

The Indianapolis Zoo is gearing up for the festive season, and we are seeking part-time Holiday Lighting Crew Members to assist in creating a magical experience for our visitors. This role involves the installation of Christmas lights, maintenance of displays, and support in the arrangement of decorations for our annual holiday event.


This position is designed for part-time work, offering up to 29 hours per week from late summer through early January. There may be opportunities for continued employment in a different capacity following the holiday season. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as weekend, holiday, and overtime shifts may be required.


We are looking for individuals who are passionate about our mission to conserve nature and inspire environmental stewardship. While previous experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not essential. A collaborative spirit and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are crucial for success in this role. The compensation for this entry-level position is set at $13.00 per hour.


Key Responsibilities and Working Conditions:

  • Install festive lighting for the holiday event.
  • Assist in the setup of Christmas trees, including the hanging of lights and other decorations.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently.
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including varying temperatures and humidity.
  • Adhere to dress code requirements appropriate for weather conditions, including Zoo-issued attire.
  • Capability to climb ladders and navigate uneven surfaces while maintaining balance to hang lights.
  • Ability to assess surroundings and communicate effectively using two-way radios and telephones.
  • Compliance with safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment such as gloves and masks.
