Position Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia is on the lookout for a skilled IT professional to fill the role of Cloud Solutions Architect. This position requires a collaborative individual who possesses a deep understanding of the organization's strategic goals and is adept at addressing challenges with a practical mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and guide both technical and non-technical teams in the analysis and architecture of application solutions.
  • Oversee extensive operational cloud environments, employing best practices across various platforms such as Azure, AWS, and GCP.
  • Establish the architecture for cloud-based applications and modernize existing hybrid applications.
  • Provide expertise in service-oriented architecture, web services, and APIs.
  • Maintain proficiency in contemporary technologies including containers, orchestration, auto-scaling, CI/CD processes, and various database systems.
  • Design high-performance Kubernetes solutions to address complex business challenges.
  • Develop and implement advanced CI/CD architectures utilizing open-source tools.
  • Apply Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban, to enhance project delivery.
  • Formulate and uphold software development standards across multiple teams.
  • Offer technical direction on innovative solutions that align with business needs and strategic objectives.
  • Define the vision and roadmap for architectural advancements within the organization.
  • Collaborate with peers to innovate the next generation of enterprise application architectures.
  • Ensure compliance with application architecture methodologies based on industry standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends in architecture and development methodologies, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Document and maintain policies and standards related to application architecture.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for enhancing architecture and development processes.
  • Analyze proposed system modifications to determine architectural strategies that meet business goals.
  • Engage with business process owners to ensure alignment with objectives.
  • Participate in design discussions to ensure adherence to architectural standards.
  • Work alongside product teams and infrastructure engineers on new implementations.
  • Support production issue resolution through effective troubleshooting.

Technical Expertise:

  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of technology principles and best practices across multiple domains.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of software architecture and implementation oversight.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff in application architecture and design.
  • Document and refine application architecture and development methodologies.

Leadership Responsibilities:

  • Develop project plans, budgets, and staffing requirements, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
  • Manage multiple complex technology projects independently.
  • Assist in creating detailed project work plans for intricate technology initiatives.
  • Support project managers in executing software development strategies.
  • Review and validate the work of technology teams.
  • Contribute to the leadership team, ensuring technology effectively addresses business challenges.
  • Promote a collaborative and customer-focused work environment.
  • Evaluate service effectiveness and recommend procedural enhancements.
  • Serve as a technical architect and subject matter expert on departmental projects.
  • Provide cross-team support to achieve technical objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in various architecture domains or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in designing and architecting large-scale applications and databases.
  • Advanced proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Java, .Net, Python, or others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with business intelligence and enterprise content management systems.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies and software development life cycles.
  • Knowledge of change management best practices.
  • Experience in diverse IT areas, including cloud solutions and advanced analytics.

Work Environment:

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring in-office attendance as directed by management.
