Job Title: Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Children's Aid. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering primary healthcare to students, working collaboratively with a physician to assess, plan, teach, and counsel patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide primary healthcare to students, including assessment, planning, teaching, and counseling.
- Work collaboratively with a physician to deliver high-quality patient care.
- Establish a database of information about pediatric patients, including health and developmental histories, and conduct basic periodic physical assessments.
- Order appropriate screening and diagnostic tests, and record findings in a systematic and accurate form.
- Assess patient status, discriminating between normal and abnormal physical findings, and recognize deviations from normal growth and development.
- Provide routine immunizations according to NYSDOH standards.
- Provide treatment for minor illnesses and accidents, either in consultation with a collaborating physician or according to established protocol.
- Make comprehensive assessments and decisions, and plan care.
- Function independently, recognizing when a collaborative consultation is appropriate.
- Provide outpatient follow-up treatment, encouraging families to call when they have concerns, and providing appropriate phone management.
- Assume responsibility for daily management of SBHC site activities, and act as a resource to other staff members involved in patient care.
- Ensure the SBHC site follows continuous quality assurance standards and meets DOH compliance, including timely submission of meeting minutes, completion of emergency drills, and completion of environmental surveys.
- Receive new vaccines from the Vaccines for Children Program, log them into the electronic medical record, and follow all Vaccines for Children protocols for vaccine storage and safety.
- Meet site productivity goals, and maintain up-to-date legible medical records and fill out required statistical forms.
- Be competent to care for patients based on the age groups treated, and contribute to the periodic review and modification of Medical Protocols.
- Continuously update personal knowledge, both formally and informally, to provide current information and appropriate care to patients.
- Ensure that all patients, visitors, and coworkers receive personalized prompt attention and are treated with dignity and respect.
Requirements:
- Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited university required.
- Certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Board Certified via National Association of Pediatric Nurse Associates and Practitioners, or the American Nursing Association.
- Current license to practice professional nursing and as a nurse practitioner in the State of New York.
Key Competencies:
- Continuing Education Unit Accreditation Maintenance.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
- Works effectively and enthusiastically with children and adolescents, families, professionals, and other personnel from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
