Job Overview

Hourly Compensation: $51.07

Shifts Available: PM 3:30 PM - 2:00 AM and OWL 9:30 PM - 7:30 AM

Key Responsibilities:

+ Perform a comprehensive range of repair and maintenance tasks on automotive and construction machinery, including power take-off driven equipment.

+ Conduct repairs on garage equipment as necessary.

+ Supervise the work of junior Automotive Mechanics or Fleet Services personnel.

+ Execute detailed tasks such as:

  • Overhauling engines, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Diagnosing engine issues.
  • Adjusting and overhauling brake systems.
  • Repairing and aligning vehicle front ends and steering mechanisms.
  • Repacking, adjusting, or replacing bearings.
  • Overhauling fuel and cooling systems.
  • Installing, repairing, and overhauling electrical systems.
  • Performing welding tasks.
  • Conducting minor body and fender repairs.
  • Painting or touching up vehicle surfaces.
  • Modifying equipment as needed.
  • Installing crew cab glass.
  • Repairing or replacing suspension systems.
  • Repairing or replacing tires and balancing wheels.
  • Maintaining small powered equipment.
  • Attending to garage gasoline service as required and making service calls.

Special Responsibilities:

+ Ensure proper care and utilization of tools, materials, and shop equipment.

+ Respond promptly to service calls and restore equipment to operational status efficiently.

+ Maintain precision when making close adjustments.

+ Conduct thorough inspections and adjustments of equipment to safeguard operators and machinery.

+ Adhere to safe working practices at all times.

Qualifications:

+ High school diploma or equivalent certification.

+ Completion of an approved automotive maintenance educational program is preferred, along with two years of experience in a similar role.

+ Alternatively, five years of satisfactory performance in an automotive maintenance facility may substitute for formal education.

+ Must possess good interpersonal skills, be able to work independently for extended periods, and demonstrate average physical strength and endurance.

+ Competency in operating equipment and eligibility for a chauffeur's license is required.

+ Successful completion of all relevant testing for this classification is mandatory.

+ A valid Class (A) C.D.L. license with Tanker endorsement is required.

+ Passing the Construction Skilled Trades (CAST) aptitude test and written automotive mechanic examination is necessary.

Compensation Structure:

+ Step (1) Pass Fleet Services Mechanic Skills Test: $42.12

+ Step (2) 6 Months Aerial Inspection Test: $43.93

+ Step (3) ASE Test: $46.46

+ Step (4) ASE Test: $48.05

+ Step (5) ASE Test: $51.07

+ Additional shift premium of $1.45 per hour for PM or OWL shifts.

+ Technicians can progress through these steps and achieve Step 5 pay within one year by obtaining Fluid Power Certification and ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Certification.

Vacation Benefits:

+ 0 to 1 year: prorated based on start date.

+ 1 to 6 years of service: 2 weeks of vacation.

+ 6 to 15 years of service: 3 weeks of vacation.

+ 15 to 20 years of service: 4 weeks of vacation.

+ 20 to 30 years of service: 5 weeks of vacation.

+ 30 or more years of service: 6 weeks of vacation.
