Optum is seeking a highly skilled Associate Medical Director to join our clinical leadership team in San Diego, CA. As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing population health and medical management initiatives that improve patient outcomes and drive business success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and implementation of population health and medical management strategies to improve patient outcomes and reduce healthcare costs.
  • Collaborate with operational leadership to develop and maintain a network of high-quality providers within the San Diego region.
  • Oversee the performance management of employed clinicians and community physician leaders, ensuring they meet quality and productivity targets.
  • Engage in committees focused on quality improvement, peer review, specialty networks, contracting, and credentialing.
  • Support affordability strategies, including inpatient management, high-risk member management, and site-of-service optimization.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts for employed physicians and other specialty services as needed by the organization.
  • Work with local site leadership to address clinical concerns and quality of care issues within the practice.

Requirements:

  • Active unrestricted license in CA.
  • Current board certification in IM/FM.
  • 5+ years of experience in an outpatient clinic setting.
  • Strong leadership qualities, including collaboration and empowerment of others.
  • Ability to commute to local sites within San Diego County and occasionally to other regional meetings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Presentation skills.
