Role Summary: The Surgical Technologist is accountable for the cleaning and management of surgical instruments in accordance with established protocols while ensuring accurate record-keeping.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to policies regarding the standardization of surgical setups and the preferences of surgeons, ensuring the proper care and organization of instruments.
  • Maintain an accurate count of sponges, needles, and instruments, and manage medications in line with established procedures.
  • Handle specimens in accordance with operating room policies and procedures.
  • Ensure contamination control and facilitate the decontamination, disinfection, sterilization, and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
  • Safely dispose of contaminated materials and equipment post-procedure.
  • Engage in team discussions to plan and evaluate patient care, assisting in the revision of care plans as necessary.
  • Keep skills proficiency checklist current by documenting equipment and cases, and participate in rotations through various specialty areas.
  • Meet physical demands, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs and pushing/pulling a minimum of 400 lbs.
  • Adapt care delivery to meet the specific needs of diverse patient populations.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care setting.
  • BLS certification (AHA) is required.
  • Experience in at least two surgical specialties is preferred.
  • Reliability and availability to work as scheduled are essential.
