Adjunct Professor of Horticulture

This is a temporary, hourly as-needed position without permanent status. The successful candidate will teach horticulture classes and related courses, such as Horticulture Science, Integrated Pest Management, Turf Management, Irrigation, Landscape Design and Construction, Park Management, and other related courses according to established curriculum.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
1. Teach horticulture classes and related courses, utilizing effective teaching methods and informed critical feedback on assignments and discussions.
2. Perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities, College policies, division policies, and department policies.
3. Instruct and assist in the growth and success of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.
4. Late afternoon, evening, and/or Saturday assignments may be required.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
- Any Bachelor's degree and two (2) full-time equivalent years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment; OR
- Any Associate's degree and six (6) full-time equivalent years of professional experience directly related to the faculty member's teaching assignment; OR
- The equivalent (must request an equivalency review in the application); OR
- California Community College credential, "Valid for Life" (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline;
B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Communicate effectively to students orally and in writing;
- Possession of a Master's degree in Horticulture or other related field;
- Equivalent of six years of experience and/or teaching experience in landscape, horticulture, or related field;
- Broad based understanding of career opportunities in Horticulture and related fields;
- Agriculture Business and Resource Management background;
- Pesticide Certification-QAL, QAC or PCA;
- Certified Arborist (ISA);
- Experience and enthusiasm in teaching vocational/technical students;

Conditions of Employment:
The person holding this position is required to be present on Mt. San Antonio College's campus to perform all essential duties and responsibilities.
Official offers of employment are made by Mt. San Antonio College Human Resources and are made contingent upon Board approval. It is also required that a final offer of employment will only be made after the candidate has successfully been live-scanned and clearance for employment is authorized by Human Resources. Costs for live-scan services shall be borne by the candidate.
