Job Summary:

As a key member of the Kaiser Permanente team, the Assistant Manager Ambulatory Care RN, Family Medicine will oversee daily operations and patient care activities in a single department or multiple small departments. This role is responsible for ensuring high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care and patient-focused services to members across the continuum, while complying with local, state, and federal requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ambulatory care nursing and leadership experience, with a focus on quality improvement and patient safety. They will be responsible for implementing and maintaining patient care and quality service standards, as well as supervising staff and providing ongoing development opportunities.

This role requires a strong understanding of the Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and other local, state, and federal regulations. The successful candidate will be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment and have a commitment to excellence in patient care.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supervise daily operations and service delivery.
  • Ensure staff provides high-quality care and are in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, NCQA, TJC, federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Implement and maintain patient care and quality service standards to meet members and internal clients' expectations.
  • Act as patient advocate resolving patient care issues.
  • Recommend, implement, and evaluate processes to improve systems and patient care results across the continuum of care.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring budgets and resource allocations.
  • Monitor financial performance and identify and recommend strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care/service.
  • Determine the appropriate staff mix for the department and develop processes to screen, interview, hire, train, and maintain the competency of all department staff.
  • Assist in providing ongoing staff development.
  • Supervise the implementation of policies and procedures that support the goals and business objectives of the organization and department.
  • Collaborate with physicians, department chief, and nursing manager in developing the appropriate level of patient services and the day-to-day operations of the department.
  • Assist in managing and resolving human resource, labor relations, employee, and department safety, and risk management issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in ambulatory care or other relevant clinical experience required.
  • OR
  • Minimum two (2) years in a healthcare leadership capacity.
  • OR
  • Completion of Kaiser Permanente Southern California Postgraduate Fellowship in Health Care Administration.

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, TJC, and other local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Clinical specialization in area of practice preferred.
  • Ambulatory Care Nursing leadership experience preferred.
  • Two-year (2) commitment to department.

Notes:

  • Will provide direct supervision of staff.
  • Will also perform regular quality reviews, in a call center setting.
  • SBC Primary Care Centralized Message Center will cover Monday-Sunday operations.
