Paraprofessional for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Students

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Paraprofessional to support students with hearing impairments or communication needs in their academic and social development.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Student Support: Provide direct support to students, helping them navigate academic tasks, assignments, and social interactions in the classroom.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) Assistance: Utilize ASL to effectively communicate with and support students who are deaf or hard of hearing, ensuring they have equal access to the curriculum and school activities.
  • Behavioral Support: Assist in implementing behavior intervention strategies as needed, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other paraprofessionals to adapt lesson plans and instructional methods to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Individualized Attention: Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to students who require additional help with specific subjects or learning challenges.
  • Progress Monitoring: Assist in tracking and recording student progress, communicating regularly with teachers and parents to ensure that goals are being met.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Illinois Paraprofessional Certification is required.
  • Working knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is required.
  • Previous experience working with students, particularly those with hearing impairments or special needs, is highly preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team to support student success.
  • Patience, compassion, and a passion for working with children in an educational setting.
