We are seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Emergency Department to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical Center Baltimore Washington.

About the Job

As a Registered Nurse in our Emergency Department, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to achieve optimal patient outcomes. You will have the opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, making decisions quickly and effectively in emergency situations.

Salary

The estimated salary for this position is $120,000 - $150,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.

Job Description

Clinical Practice:

• Provides independent care to patients in the Emergency Department

• Serves as a clinical resource for others, utilizing evidence-based practice and integrating new knowledge into daily practice

• Accountable to patients and families for the processes and outcomes of care during an episode of care

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to plan and coordinate care addressing patient/family needs

• Participates in implementation efforts addressing Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators (NSQI)

Service/Quality:

• Assists in team development and evaluation of tenants of Patient and Family Centered Care, suggesting methods for improvement

• Participates in collection of data related to outcomes, such as hand offs and medication safety

• Complies with standards and participates with unit-level activities for regulatory compliance

• Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members

• Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices, and communicates them to those in charge

Unit Operations:

• Supports charge nurse decisions and performs charge role for assigned shifts as needed

• Assists in the development of clinical practice protocols and standards for the unit

• Participates in unit-based process activities, including Performance Improvement, Professional Development, Clinical Practice, Teamwork, etc.

• Orients Clinical Nurse I to unit-level decision-making structure and councils

Professional Development:

• Serves as a preceptor, coach, and mentor to new nurses and students

• Contributes to ancillary personnel skills and development, attends educational offerings and in-services independently

• Demonstrates leadership qualities through effectiveness as a charge nurse, preceptor, or clinical resource

• Maintains 10 contact hours of education every two years

• Recent applicable clinical experience in a comparable setting is preferred

• Demonstrates highly effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

• Ability to learn and use computer systems to manage patient information

• Ability to participate in team-building efforts on units and supports and models teamwork

Patient Safety:

• Ensures patient safety in the performance of job functions and through participation in hospital, department, or unit patient safety initiatives

• Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety

• Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority

• Implements policies, procedures, and standards consistently in the performance of assigned duties

• Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices, and communicates them to those in charge

• Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members
