Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Life Skills Counselor to join our team at In Flight, Inc. as part of our ISAIL Program located in Red Hook.

The ISAIL Program is a unique initiative that provides opportunities for skill building in Independent Living, Community Integration, and Social Skills for young men and women with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Assist individuals in achieving valued outcomes in their individualized service plans
  • Supervise and support individuals in the environment of their choice
  • Facilitate community integration and assist individuals in reaching their potential
  • Contribute to program planning and training towards goals of independence and choice
  • Support individuals in becoming self-sufficient, self-advocating, self-driven, and self-actualized
  • Ensure overall protective oversight of individuals based on their needs
  • Teach Personal Hygiene and Self-Care skills
  • Assist with skill building services for continued development and teaching of daily living skills
  • Community inclusion: learning to use libraries, recreation centers, go shopping, and Basic Money Management
  • Self-advocacy/Inform Choice: helping persons to make choices and advocate for themselves
  • Travel Training: using trains & buses, making transfers, etc.
  • Appropriate Social Skills/Behavior/Relationship building
  • Safety in the community/home: crossing streets, seeking help
  • Submit all paperwork in a timely manner - documentation of services provided to each person supported
  • Maintain a professional role model and maintain a professional manner and presentation at all times
  • Meet monthly with supervisor for supervision

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required; Associate Degree preferred
  • Working experience with IDD population (preferred)
  • Experience with employment training and vocational settings (preferred)
  • Written and Communication skills required
  • Attend all mandatory trainings as needed
