Job Summary

This role involves developing and applying statistical and analytical methods to improve operations and maintenance of the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) air and space ground test equipment and facilities.

The successful candidate will work as a member of the Digital Enterprise group (DE) to lead implementation of data-centered projects to improve the AEDC ground test data infrastructure, facility operations, and business systems.

The person selected for this role will work closely with multidisciplinary work teams throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive decisions and will help design and implement a data architecture working with the Digital Enterprise team.

Job Duties
  • Coordinate engineering deliverables on a project or group of projects.
  • Communicate information to assist with effective priority determination by Digital Enterprise Branch Management.
  • Coordinate with the technical team to guide and direct project activities.
  • Support Project Control / Digital Enterprise Project Manager in performing critical path analysis and development of timelines for completion of tasks.
  • Communicate schedule conflicts, resource constraints, and time constraints to the project team, section supervisors, and group managers.
  • Assist with PM responsibilities as needed in the preparation of progress reports and monitoring of overall project performance.
  • Track project charging and ensure appropriate charge number assignment.
  • Organize and communicate project information to project team members.
  • Serve as a technical liaison between the project team, contractor, and government engineering staff.
  • Support process improvement efforts and development and documentation of new processes.
Basic Qualifications

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, or other engineering discipline from an accredited college or university plus 4 to 10 years of progressive work experience in design engineering or other relevant types of engineering.

Prior experience managing engineering projects and/or designing systems.

Current United States citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

Technical knowledge of related engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering and construction methods and materials, and engineering application of computers.

Master's or PhD degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or another relevant engineering field from an accredited university program.

Demonstrated experience in a data analytics role applied to technical data in probability analyses and statistical analytics to gain insights using large data sources.

Knowledge of data mining, analysis, and collection techniques applied to operations and analysis, especially safety or operations process improvement.

Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, etc.) to analyze data and draw insights from large data sets.

Experience working with and creating data architectures.

Experience performing root cause analysis.

Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.

Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.

Coding knowledge and experience with multiple languages.

Knowledge and experience in statistical and data mining techniques: GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, text mining, etc.

Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including the preparation of technical reports.
