Surgery Partners is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Assistant - Per Diem to join our team. As a Surgical Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting our surgeons and surgical teams during operations.
Key Responsibilities- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team during an operation, assisting with tasks such as selecting equipment, holding open incisions, stopping bleeding, and closing the incision.
- Position the patient for surgery and aid with draping, clearing the area where the surgeon will operate, and holding open incisions using tissue retractors, sponges, or operating suction or irrigation equipment.
- Select and pass instruments and supplies during an operation, stopping bleeding by sponging, clamping, tying, or cauterizing vessels, or suturing tissue layers as directed by the surgeon.
- Apply dressings to surgical wounds, count sponges, needles, and other materials before and after the operation, and close the incision at the end of the procedure.
- Completion of an approved RN First Assistant Training Program.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of California.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a perioperative nurse.
- ACLS certification from American Heart Association required.
- Professional malpractice insurance.
