Job Summary

As a Clinical Operations Registered Nurse Lead at Christus Health, you will play a vital role in supporting and coordinating the day-to-day activities of nursing personnel in patient care units. You will provide direction to clinical staff, implement work plans, and coordinate activities with other patient care units and related departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Coordination
    • Meet expectations of applicable Christus Health competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
    • Organize and oversee patient care delivery during assigned shifts, ensuring proper staffing and smooth operations of patient care units.
  • Staff Development and Support
    • Coach and counsel individual team members, monitoring and providing feedback on performance and addressing training needs.
    • Document daily staffing, operational, and administrative records, maintaining compliance with governmental policies and procedures.
  • Patient Care and Safety
    • Provide direction and support to nursing staff, demonstrating and promoting respect for the dignity and rights of every patient, and assisting with communications with patients and families.
    • Allocate team resources responsibly and equitably, delegate appropriate levels of responsibility and authority, and provide oversight and guidance.
  • Conflict Resolution and Quality Improvement
    • Mediate and resolve conflicts among individuals, groups, and departments.
    • Support proper allocation of team resources, delegate appropriate levels of responsibility and authority, and provide support and guidance for high-quality patient care.

  • Use critical thinking skills to assess the basic physical, psychosocial, social, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of patients and families.
  • Communicate findings to appropriate healthcare team members.
  • Develop and use a specific plan of care and modify it to meet individual patient needs using evidence-based practice.
  • Evaluate the care and treatment provided to patients and the patient's response to the care and treatment.
Standard II: Patient Throughput & Patient Flow Process
  • Anticipate and plan for admission/discharge/transfer needs to facilitate patient flow.
  • Utilize appropriate systems of communication and tools to facilitate the discharge process.
Standard III: Unit Operations
  • Plan, direct, and evaluate the overall nursing care and functions in a particular nursing unit during an assigned shift.
  • Demonstrate good stewardship in the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Standard IV: Safe Practice/Quality Care/Regulations
  • Incorporate patient safety practices/guidelines to promote a safe environment resulting in positive patient outcomes.
  • Demonstrate accountability for nursing research and quality improvement activities.
Standard V: Leadership
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for patient care.
  • Give continuing feedback, recognize achievement, and recommend improvement as a patient care subject matter expert.
Technical CompetenciesClinical Policies and Standards
  • Follow a specific set of standards and associated clinical procedures.
  • Analyze policy and standards documentation and ensure organizational compliance.
Health Information Documentation
  • Share experiences with maintaining paper and electronic patient documentation.
  • Walk through the steps and procedures for receiving, validating, and updating patient records.
Medical Equipment
  • Describe experience with basic medical equipment used in own unit or facility.
  • Use standard diagnostic tools and techniques to resolve common equipment problems.
Medical Order Processing
  • Share experiences with processing medical orders for one or more groups of patients or conditions.
  • Describe functions and features of the system used to enter, validate, update, and forward medical orders.
Patient Chart Reading and Interpretation
  • Describe experiences in reading and interpreting patient charts for patients on unit and under own care.
  • Review patients' charts for completion and accuracy, identify and alert to mistakes or omissions.
Patient Safety
  • Share experiences with ensuring safety for one or more patient groups or settings.
  • Explain key features of safety guidelines and procedures for those groups and settings.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred.
  • 2 years of clinical patient care experience in a relevant setting.
  • BLS required.
  • RN License in state of employment or compact.
