About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team at Midwest Vision Partners. As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support to our ophthalmologists and optometrists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interact with patients to gather information and enter it into our electronic medical records system.
  • Proactively engage patients in communicating what to expect with the visit and continue to communicate delays or any other changes with the patient.
  • Initiate and perform documentation of the patient's chief complaint, present illness, and capture past medical history.
  • Accurately record all information in EMR system according to established standards and physician requirements.
  • Conduct tests and measures eye muscle function, pupil size, and reactivity.
  • Apply drops to anesthetize, dilate, or medicate eyes.
  • Assist with minor surgery procedures, intraocular injections, and laser treatments in an exam room or treatment room, including preparing patients for sterile procedures.
  • Educate patients regarding the administration of medications and pre and post-operative instructions, as directed by physicians.
  • Readily scribe for physicians.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential, following all HIPAA requirements.
  • Utilize effective problem-solving skills to respectfully and efficiently de-escalate any dissatisfied patients.
  • Demonstrate basic knowledge of eye anatomy, disease, symptoms, and ocular medications.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies and medications and be able to answer general patient questions.
  • Assist team members and complete other special projects as requested.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time and lift up to 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Electronic Medical Records (EMR) experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Entry-level position with 0-3 years of experience.
