The Yard Mule and Forklift Operator plays a crucial role in the logistics and distribution process by efficiently maneuvering a forklift to transport, position, stack, and inventory goods. This position also entails the proficient operation of a yard mule to ensure optimal trailer placement for loading and unloading activities. When not engaged in trailer movement, the operator will utilize the forklift on the dock to facilitate the unloading and loading of incoming shipments, ensuring products are transferred to the appropriate dispersing trailers safely.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Quality Assurance: Verify that all inbound and outbound shipments are accurate and undamaged. Report any discrepancies in quality. Ensure that all necessary hostler documentation is completed thoroughly and promptly during each shift.
  • Loading Operations: Effectively transfer products from staging or storage areas into rail cars or trailers.
  • Equipment Handling: Utilize a forklift, clamp truck, yard mule, or other powered equipment to load, unload, move, stack, and stage products and materials. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the facility's equipment and materials. Conduct daily inspections and perform minor maintenance on the forklift and other equipment. Operate all machinery safely and efficiently, adhering to established work methods.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records and reports to ensure strict inventory control and security. Assist with physical inventory counts as needed.
  • Safety and Sanitation: Uphold a clean and orderly work environment. Contribute to the security of the warehouse. Conduct operations in a manner that prioritizes safety. Comply with OSHA and MSDS standards. Ensure that pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the yard mule are performed at the beginning and end of each shift.
  • Maintenance Duties: Participate in or assist with maintenance tasks related to the building, grounds, and equipment as required.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 1 year of recent experience operating a forklift.
  • Capability to operate a yard mule.
  • Experience with standup forklifts equipped with suicide knobs is advantageous.
