GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The Clerk IV serves essential administrative functions within the department, acting as the primary point of communication for various processes.

Responsible for maintaining and organizing documentation related to patient care and medical supplies, as well as distributing correspondence and information to staff, healthcare providers, and patients.

Accurately transcribes patient and unit information both manually and digitally.
Facilitates both written and verbal communication to the appropriate personnel.
Handles photocopying tasks for staff and healthcare providers. Manages incoming calls and the call system.
Ensures the precise, timely, and clear transfer of communications, including physician directives.
Fosters and maintains a welcoming, customer-oriented atmosphere.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Skills Needed:

  • Must successfully complete the Medical Terminology Exam if lacking prior Unit Clerk experience.
  • High school diploma with the ability to read, write, and understand medical terminology, alongside a commitment to positive communication.
  • Prior experience in clerical or receptionist roles is preferred; experience in a healthcare setting or completion of a relevant training program is advantageous.
  • Capable of managing detailed tasks, working under pressure, and effectively interacting with patients, hospital personnel, healthcare providers, and visitors.
Exhibits the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.

  • Proficient in verbal communication, especially over the telephone.
  • Competent in computer skills following necessary training on the hospital's information system.
  • Meets the criteria for pre-employment screening and physical assessment.
  • Able to work autonomously in high-pressure situations while calmly handling multiple interruptions.


As necessary, the individual possesses training and competency in addressing the unique needs and behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients receiving care.
