Nexstar Media Group is seeking a highly skilled and versatile Weather Reporter and Multi-Media Journalist to join their team.

Job Summary:

The Weather Reporter and Multi-Media Journalist will be responsible for reporting, shooting, writing, and editing weather and news reports across multiple platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce and present weather and news reports for all platforms, ensuring that the content meets the highest standards of journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Write and deliver weather and news stories in a clear and concise manner, using a variety of formats, including live shots, pre-recorded segments, and written articles.
  • Assist in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating weather programming and other content, working closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Respond to breaking and severe weather events, as well as other urgent newsroom situations, demonstrating a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Participate in promotional activities, including public appearances, to increase the visibility of the station and its weather team.
  • Write web stories detailing the local forecast on a daily basis, using a conversational tone and engaging format to attract and retain viewers.
  • Interact with viewers and users on social media sites, responding to comments and engaging in discussions to build a loyal following.
  • The MMJ part of the job includes reporting three days a week, demonstrating a high level of skill and versatility in all aspects of reporting, including writing, shooting, and editing.
  • Ability to shoot pictures and edit stories from beginning to end, using a variety of software and equipment to produce high-quality content.
  • Winning candidate will be posting on the web and social media, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in all aspects of digital media.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
  • Entry-level to 2 years' experience in weather presentation and reporting, with a strong understanding of the field of Meteorology and a proven track record of forecasting.
  • Ability to shoot video and perform non-linear editing, with a strong understanding of ENPS and proficiency with Barron's Radar.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously, with a high level of flexibility and adaptability.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record, with the ability to work any shift, as needed.

Estimated Salary: $45,000 - $60,000 per year, based on location and experience.
