PET/CT Technologist Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled PET/CT Technologist to join our team at Cancer Clinics of North Texas - Radiation Oncology-Plano in Plano, TX.

Job Summary

The PET/CT Technologist performs PET/CT, diagnostic CT, and nuclear medicine therapy procedures in accordance with standards set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and/or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high-quality PET/CT scan procedures to support accurate diagnosis while maintaining high-quality patient care.
  • Administer IV injections for all PET/CT scan procedures.
  • Perform high-quality diagnostic CT procedures to support accurate diagnosis.
  • Perform high-quality nuclear medicine procedures, including I-131 therapy, Lu-177 Pluvicto, and Ra-223 Xofigo.
  • Follow all radiation safety practices and protocols for all nuclear medicine, diagnostic CT, and PET/CT procedures.
  • Order, prepare, administer, store, and dispose of radiopharmaceuticals according to established protocols and applicable regulations/standards for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
  • Post-process all PET/CT and diagnostic CT procedures to support accurate diagnosis.
  • Use information systems proficiently, including EMR, scheduling, and PACS software applications.
  • Interact with both internal and external customers professionally.
  • Assist other departments during downtime.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory work-related meetings and training sessions.
  • Assign tasks using the electronic medical record (EMR) to communicate pending work.
  • Maintain a productive relationship with physicians, radiation therapy, medical oncology, physics, and dosimetry departments.
  • Follow established practice patterns to ensure the timely readiness of treatment plans.
  • Follow the code of ethics and practice standards set by the ARRT and NMTCB.
  • Comply with all licensure and certification requirements to perform the job as required by applicable State licensing, ARRT, NMTCB, and company policy.
  • Report work-related injuries to the supervisor immediately.
  • Report unsafe equipment or work conditions to the supervisor immediately.
  • Attend and participate in regularly scheduled technical/clinical staff meetings.
  • Acknowledge new or revised policies and procedures through in-service documentation.
  • Participate in OSHA-related activities, including drills.
  • Ensure that required competencies and mandatory training and compliance activities are completed as assigned.
  • Notify the supervisor of sick time before the start of the next scheduled shift and days thereafter.
  • Request vacation time in advance to arrange coverage.
  • Monitor and stock supply levels of the PET/CT scan room and/or hot lab and report to the supervisor when supply orders are needed.
  • Review expiration dates of all supplies in the PET/CT room and hot lab monthly and remove expired supplies from service.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as outlined by the infection control policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Able to administer isotopes and IV contrast.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle safely from location to location.
  • Operate independently.
  • Exude an attitude of customer service to patients and staff within an office.
  • Show empathy and compassion.
Education and Experience

A successful completion of an approved Nuclear Medicine program is required. A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience working in general and cardiac nuclear medicine is required, including a minimum of one (1) year of experience in PET/CT.

  • Special Training, Certification, or Licensure: State of Texas MRT license. Current R.T. (NM) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) -OR- Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) required. Current CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider certification required. ARRT or NMTCB Certification in CT is preferred but not required.

  • Must ensure positive interactions in dealing with patients and other staff members.
