Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Accountant to join our team at EquiTrust Life Insurance. As a key member of our Tax Department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our corporate tax returns and financial statements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation and Review of Tax Returns: Prepare and review corporate federal and state income tax returns, as well as tax return information for multiple life insurance legal entities.
  • Support of Tax Department Functions: Provide support for various tax department functions and processes, including tax return preparation, tax payments, and ad hoc requests.
  • Collaboration with Leadership: Collaborate with leaders across the organization to accomplish departmental and organizational goals and objectives.
  • Financial Statement Disclosures: Complete various monthly calculations and quarterly closing responsibilities, including financial statements disclosures.
  • Tax Provision Software Process Automation: Assist with the automation of tax provision software processes.
  • Excise Reinsurance Tax Returns: Prepare and review excise reinsurance tax returns and tax payments.
  • Partnerships and Relationships: Partner with Treasury Team staff to ensure timely processing and recording of tax payments, and build relationships with stakeholders to obtain information for federal, state, and local tax returns.
  • Record Keeping and Documentation: Maintain excellent and thorough tax records for internal and external audit purposes and historical documentation purposes.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required; Master of Science in Taxation preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of life insurance and/or annuity experience, 3 years of finance or economics experience, and 3 years of corporate taxation experience with a tax department or public accounting.
  • Skills and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ERP systems, and corporate tax provision applications; intermediate understanding of insurance company taxation; exceptional judgment and decision-making skills; ability to work in a team setting and independently; ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion; advanced communication skills; and ability to present information and analyses in a concise and effective manner.
Working Conditions
  • Location: On-site location in Chicago, Illinois; mostly off-site work; occasional business travel (5-10% of the time).
