Job Overview

Position Objective: The primary responsibility is to operate forklifts in a safe and efficient manner while managing all incoming and outgoing freight systematically. This role involves maintaining an organized warehouse environment through proper stacking and cleanliness, as well as loading and unloading trucks and trailers with care and adherence to established procedures. The operator is accountable for ensuring that all shipments are accurately staged, verified, and loaded correctly, while also managing the proper storage of inventory within the warehouse.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Warehouse Manager in achieving optimal warehouse operations.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating sit-down forklifts and/or Walkie Riders.
  • Utilize basic computer skills and handheld RF devices effectively.
  • Safely load and unload trucks and trailers, including those of external carriers, following all safety protocols.
  • Be available for flexible shifts, including 10 to 12-hour workdays, and be comfortable working at heights.
  • Handle and transport stock weighing between 1 lb. and 50 lbs. repeatedly.
  • Ensure all shipments are properly staged and loaded for delivery.
  • Maintain a clean and organized warehouse environment.
  • Process outbound cross-dock freight as required.
  • Oversee the proper storage of inventory and manage the movement of products into storage racks.
  • Utilize warehouse operation sheets to pick customer orders and load them onto trailers.
  • Record and confirm the accuracy of shipments against accompanying documentation for incoming and outgoing freight.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and documentation accurately.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and company policies while operating forklifts, including the mandatory use of seatbelts.
  • Conduct daily maintenance inspections on forklifts.
  • Handle customer products with care and organization.
  • Inspect deliveries for packaging quality and material condition, reporting any issues to the Warehouse Supervisor.
  • Immediately report any accidents, incidents, or damages to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Manage trailer spotting to ensure efficient yard organization and equipment flow.
  • Keep dock doors clear of debris and snow to maintain accessibility.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Additional Expectations:

  • Exhibit a strong sense of urgency and accountability while working independently.
  • Possess a basic understanding of computer systems and RF equipment.
  • Be able to read, write, and comprehend English effectively.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, with strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Be willing to work overtime and provide coverage for other shifts as needed.
  • Possess basic PC skills.
  • Have significant experience operating sit-down forklifts and Electric Pallet Jacks.
  • Experience in constructing pallets and breaking down stock for individual orders is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cross-docking processes is advantageous.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

Qualifications:

  • 3-6 months of experience operating forklifts in a warehouse setting, specifically with sit-down forklifts and Electric Pallet Jacks.
  • Demonstrated stable work history.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required.
  • Warehouse certifications are a plus.
