Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and certified pharmacy technician to join our team at WellSpan Health. As a pharmacy technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient preparation and dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide orientation and training to new employees to ensure they meet quality standards and are familiar with hospital facilities and goals.
  2. Fulfill purchasing and procurement responsibilities as needed.
  3. Complete thorough medication reconciliation processes for admitted patients as assigned.
  4. Prioritize workload to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, with patient care being the top priority.
  5. Meet deadlines for special projects and daily responsibilities, demonstrating a proactive and organized approach.
  6. Prepare sterile products using aseptic technique, including IV admixtures, nutritional admixtures, and oncology admixtures.
  7. Correctly use the Mobile Isolation Chamber and perform proper cleaning and maintenance procedures.
  8. Perform calculations and conversions to determine correct medication dosages, with work verified by a registered pharmacist.
  9. Compound and prepare pharmaceuticals for dispensing, with work verified by a registered pharmacist.
  10. Stay involved in the unit by attending 50% of staff meetings and in-services.
  11. Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, cleaning the department and work area as needed.
  12. Inspect pharmacy inventory to ensure pharmaceuticals are reordered when necessary and outdated items are removed and replaced.
  13. Stay up-to-date with the latest knowledge of commonly prescribed drugs, including their usual dose, dosage ranges, administration, and storage conditions.
  14. Review nursing unit inventory monthly to ensure proper medication dates, quantity, storage, and rotation of stock supplies.
  15. Have a working understanding of The Joint Commission MM Standards and their application to health system pharmacy.
  16. Effectively utilize barcode controls to minimize errors, scanning products whenever possible.
  17. Maintain current knowledge of the profession through reading journals, attending meetings, or CEUs to maintain certification.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or GED required.
  • Informal or continuing education as needed to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Experience applying customer service behaviors and communication skills required.
  • Prior experience as a pharmacy technician is desired, as well as experience in IV admixture and quality control.
  • Keyboarding skills and experience with computer systems are required.
  • Registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association is required, or registration by a state board as an active pharmacy technician with the goal of obtaining registered status within 6 months of hire.
