RER Solutions, Inc. is currently inviting applications for a Financial Strategy Consultant (Expert in Demand-side Mechanisms) to assist The Office of Clean Energy Demonstrations (OCED) in its mission to implement large-scale clean energy demonstration initiatives in collaboration with the private sector, aiming to expedite deployment, enhance market acceptance, and facilitate an equitable transition to a decarbonized energy framework. The Financial Strategy Consultant will offer federal program support to the Market Energy Analysis team. (Hybrid Position)

Key Responsibilities

  • Customize OCED programs to address significant obstacles to private sector capital formation for clean energy technologies.
  • Create comprehensive financial models to steer discussions and structure potential demand-side support measures, such as advance market commitments, to ensure commercial viability.
  • Perform in-depth financial modeling to evaluate the influence of program design on project economics and its implications for private sector investment, maximizing clean energy deployment per dollar invested.
  • Provide expert structuring advice to enable the establishment of secondary markets for essential clean energy products.
  • Assist in analyzing the effects of specific program design elements on OCED's portfolio strategy and associated risks.
  • Prepare strategic analyses and briefing documents for senior Department leadership to convey findings on specific support mechanisms aimed at maximizing clean energy deployment and capital formation for various technologies.
  • Conduct market and energy analyses to derive future insights and assess OCED's current investment portfolio in clean energy projects through collaboration and synthesis of input from diverse internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Develop or utilize existing data, modeling, and analytical tools linked to crosscutting DOE strategies and policy decisions across multiple markets, energy, and industry sectors in partnership with OCED and other DOE offices, as well as external collaborators.
  • Collaborate with other DOE offices to stimulate commercial deployment following DOE-funded demonstration projects, engaging with banks, private equity firms, infrastructure funds, sovereign wealth funds, and more.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain client-issued Public Trust.
  • Exceptional financial modeling capabilities, particularly in project finance.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in investment banking or private equity is preferred.
  • Experience in the energy or natural resources sector is strongly preferred.
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to prioritize attention on critical aspects of complex problems.
  • Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and experience in conducting risk versus payoff assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Education: Bachelor's Degree
