Position Summary

The Senior Environmental Scientist - Air Quality Subject Matter Expert will play a pivotal role in supporting the Environmental Management Facility Compliance Team at PG&E. This hybrid role primarily involves remote work, with occasional travel to various facilities within the service area, including the Bay Area and Central Valley regions. This position is classified as an ESC or union-represented exempt role, subject to collective bargaining agreements.

This senior-level role necessitates expertise in project and program management, providing technical assistance on a broad spectrum of air quality compliance issues. Key responsibilities include developing and refining clear guidance, programs, and procedures, and collaborating with Environmental Management personnel and functional area partners (e.g., Gas Operations, Electric Operations) to effectively communicate and implement air quality compliance measures in alignment with local, state, and federal regulations.

The Senior Environmental Scientist will work closely with Environmental Field Specialists and other team members to ensure compliance with both facility operations and construction projects, all while adhering to PG&E's core values and objectives. The focus will be on problem resolution, process optimization, and risk mitigation related to air quality. This role will also involve the creation and execution of air quality compliance strategies across the PG&E service territory, reporting directly to the EM Supervisor for Gas and Electric Transmission.

The primary focus of this position is to support Gas Transmission Facilities, but it will also extend to Electric Transmission and Telecommunications facilities, ensuring that all operations maintain compliant air quality systems and practices.

Compensation Information

PG&E provides a salary range that reflects the company's good faith estimate for this position. The actual salary will depend on various factors, including skills, education, experience, market value, geographic location, and collective bargaining agreements. The estimated salary range for this role is:

California Minimum: $123,384

California Maximum: $165,204

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the organization.
  • Provide air quality compliance support for Gas & Electric Transmission facilities, including:
    • Assisting with Title V compliance program implementation.
    • Coordinating semi-annual and annual reporting.
    • Managing air quality compliance program updates.
    • Facilitating inspections and inquiries from local air districts and regulatory bodies.
    • Responding to non-compliance issues and conducting internal audits.
    • Overseeing permit application processes, including renewals and revisions.
  • Support compliance for non-Title V permitted facilities and assist with California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliance initiatives.
  • Engage in process improvement efforts related to new CARB emission requirements.
  • Review internal data management systems to ensure accurate compliance data entry.
  • Conduct training sessions for internal personnel on air quality regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in an environmental discipline, sciences, or engineering.
  • Eight years of relevant experience in the environmental air quality sector.
  • Valid California driver's license or ability to obtain one by the first day of employment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in an environmental discipline, sciences, engineering, or MBA.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental air quality regulations and policies.
  • Proficiency in utilizing work management systems (e.g., MS Office, Salesforce, SAP).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
