JOB SUMMARY
The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner is a licensed and certified healthcare professional who provides direct patient care in a primary care setting. This role includes delegated prescriptive authority and is recognized as an independent billing provider within the healthcare system. The Advanced Practice Provider delivers medical services based on the established scope of practice under the supervision of a physician.
Typically, these practitioners focus on delivering care in pediatric clinics, addressing the needs of children and adolescents.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
- Conducts thorough assessments of patients' physical and mental health through comprehensive examinations and medical histories.
- Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to evaluate patient health and identify care needs.
- Prescribes medications and therapeutic treatments in accordance with established protocols, prioritizing safety and efficacy.
- Suggests lifestyle modifications to mitigate health risks.
- Develops and implements patient-centered treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based practices, and collaboration with healthcare teams.
- Monitors and evaluates patient responses to treatments and the overall effectiveness of care.
- Provides education and counseling to patients and families regarding health management, medications, and wellness strategies.
- Maintains detailed records of patient care and treatment outcomes, ensuring timely referrals when necessary.
- Offers specialized consultation services related to pediatric health issues.
- Performs specific procedures as authorized by the supervising physician.
- May manage a panel of patients with a focus on both acute and chronic health conditions.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
- In-depth knowledge of medical practices and techniques for diagnosing and treating various health conditions.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to engage effectively with patients and families.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
- Proficiency in using healthcare technology and software.
- Capacity to develop comprehensive treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs.
- Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas.
- Basic Life Support certification required within the initial employment period.
- Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is essential.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:
- Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM; potential for 4-day work weeks
- Outpatient care only
- On-call responsibilities: 1 week every 8 weeks
- Experience in pediatric clinics is preferred
