Shawnee Public Schools is seeking a skilled and dedicated School Nurse - LPN to join our team. As a School Nurse - LPN, you will play a vital role in promoting, improving, and maintaining the health of our students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain student health records.
- Facilitate student and staff virtual doctor visits with TEAM Clinic for illness, medical screening, and medication refills.
- Utilize nurse's office/clinic to address and care for students who present with symptoms of illness.
- Administer medication according to doctor's orders and prescription labels.
- Maintain accurate medication logs detailing medication on hand, and dates/times of administration to students.
- Monitor the school immunization program and work with parents to maintain compliance for all students.
- Function within federal, state, and district policies in providing health care to children with special needs and at-risk students.
- Maintain compliance with TEAM Clinic training and equipment.
- Document food allergies and maintain individual student files.
- Plan and conduct school health and screening programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight, hearing, dental, and others as necessary. Provide follow through for identified health needs.
- Consult regarding and/or administer emergency care for injury or sudden illness.
- Promote sanitary conditions within the schools.
- Serve as a resource health professional to students and staff.
- Participate with school personnel at team meetings and planning sessions.
- Provide health education, guidance, counseling, and referrals for students.
- Attend professional meetings, in-services, and workshops.
- Participate in billing procedures when applicable.
- Maintain a school clinic that is conducive to good health practices.
- Perform other health-related duties, or tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
- Valid license issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nurse Registration and Nursing Education.
- CPR certification (Health Care Provider - all ages).
- Driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Three years of experience as a licensed practical nurse in various areas, including community/public health nursing, pediatric nursing, emergency room nursing, medical-surgical nursing, health education, and school experience.
Working Conditions:
The School Nurse - LPN will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with students, staff, and parents. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, is essential. The School Nurse - LPN must be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Supervision:
The School Nurse - LPN will report to the Building Administrator, District Nurse, and Director of Special Services.
