We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team at Neighborhood Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing and documenting results of selected tests and measurements, maintaining adequately supplied workstations, and promoting timely and efficient patient flow through the clinic.
Key Responsibilities- Perform measurements of auto-refraction, auto-keratometry, lensometry, pupillary distance, visual acuity, color vision testing, stereopsis testing, and eyeglasses measurements.
- Record physical measurements referring to past visit measurements as appropriate and notify the optometrist of any significant changes or abnormalities.
- Obtain health history information and complete medication reconciliation.
- Perform other diagnostic testing as directed, such as anterior segment imaging, retina imaging, optical coherence tomography, and visual field testing.
- Record results of all eye and vision tests and process and package lab samples for analysis by off-site lab services.
- Assist clients in applying for eyeglasses via charity sources and selecting frames that are appropriate for them.
- Submit eyeglasses orders to charity sources and/or vision insurance-affiliated labs.
- Order trial contact lenses, track arrivals, and notify the optometrist and clients of contact lens trial arrivals.
- Assist in teaching proper contact lens hygiene, insertion, and removal skills to clients.
- Ensure patients are appropriately checked out, including testing or labs performed, eye drops, and other medications or materials given.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Some experience in optometry or medical office preferred.
- Commission on Paraoptometric Certification preferred.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish required.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (training provided).
