Job Summary:

Siouxland Community Health Center is seeking a skilled Somali interpreter to join our team. As a part-time interpreter, you will play a vital role in ensuring that our patients receive high-quality care by providing accurate and timely translation services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide translation services and support non-English speaking patients and their families during clinical visits.
  • Work directly with medical staff to ensure accurate communication and understanding between patients and staff.
  • Assist patients in completing necessary intake forms, including demographic and medical history, and financial verification.
  • Travel to local agencies or hospitals to provide interpreting services as needed.

Requirements:
  • Fluency in verbal, reading, and written bilingual communication skills - Somali and English.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Knowledge of cultural barriers to medical care and ability to diminish barriers on the patients' and SCHC's behalf.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology in Somali and in English.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Previous experience interpreting preferred.
