This position is located at Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Hospital, where the incumbent serves as the Chief of Optometry. The purpose of the work is to improve the overall eye care health status of the population served.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose and treat optometric and ocular problems through external and internal physical evaluation of the eye and surrounding tissue.
- Refer patients requiring complex medical surgery or services to appropriate medical specialty.
- Provide vision and eye care education and counseling to patients.
- Take complete history from the patient and/or family member to determine risk of eye disease.
- Record all patient care examinations, assessments, procedures, and care plans.
- Supervise subordinates, develop and monitor the eye care budget, devise and implement projects.
- Must pass pre-employment examination.
- Selectee may be subject to a probationary/trial period.
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- This is a designated position covered by Public Law, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, social).
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part-time experience.
You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
Education and LicensureApplicants must have a Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE) at the time the degree was obtained.
Applicants must have received a passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
