Janitorial Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Janitorial Specialist to join our team at the City of Lubbock. As a key member of our facilities maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and organization of our buildings and surrounding premises.

Key Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, and wax floors to maintain a clean and safe environment
• Clean and vacuum carpets to ensure a healthy and comfortable space
• Dust and polish furniture, woodwork, and shelves to maintain a high level of cleanliness
• Empty and clean waste receptacles to prevent odors and pests
• Wash windows and walls to maintain a clean and visually appealing environment
• Clean and sanitize restrooms to ensure a healthy and comfortable space
• Maintain equipment and materials used in cleaning work, including hand tools and automated equipment
• Clean and maintain nearby paved and planted areas to ensure a safe and attractive environment
• Perform minor repair work, including unstopping drains and repairing faucets
• Operate forklifts and other moving equipment to move materials and supplies
• Remove debris and litter from public areas to maintain a clean and safe environment
• Set up rooms for special events and meetings to ensure a comfortable and welcoming space
• Interact with visitors and patrons to provide excellent customer service

Requirements

• Completion of the 10th grade and one year of experience or any combination of relevant education and experience
• Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in janitorial work
• Ability to use machines and equipment, including a buffer, shampoo machine, vacuum, floor stripper, mop, broom, and related cleaning implements
• Ability to communicate effectively with others
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
