Job Summary

Carter Machinery Co., Inc. is seeking a skilled Conventional Machinist to join our team in Chesapeake, Virginia. As a Conventional Machinist, you will be responsible for running conventional machines in a job shop environment, performing repairs to equipment and parts, and designing, fabricating, machining, and assembling components when necessary.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate conventional machines to perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment and components.
  • Design, fabricate, machine, and assemble components when necessary.
  • Perform welding and cutting operations as required.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with high volume work and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Provide guidance and training to less experienced machinists.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Requirements
  • Minimum two years' experience in machining and repair of heavy equipment and components.
  • Strong mechanical and design abilities.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and provide guidance to less experienced machinists.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
Physical Requirements

The Conventional Machinist position requires the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver items up to 70 pounds, including bulky objects. The position also requires repeated reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing beside, onto, and under heavy equipment.
