About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Certified Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Job Summary

The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care utilizing respiratory therapy processes, operating specialized ventilators, and collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use pulmonary diagnostics, chest radiograph, hemodynamic values, laboratory values, and blood gases to support patient assessment and address special needs of the patient population.
  • Operate and maintain specialized ventilators in critical and non-critical care venues, and assist physicians with bedside procedures as needed.
  • Provide medication treatments and therapies per physician order and/or patient-driven respiratory protocols.
  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure proper functionality and identify the need for service or repair.
  • Educate and instruct patients on purpose, technique, self-care, goal of therapy, and disease management.
  • Collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients and facilitate clinical problem-solving.
  • Under physician direction, adapt and comply with policies and procedures for various service areas, perform tasks and duties as required by assignment, and maintain performance standards and organizational behaviors.
  • Demonstrate effective communication, feedback, and conflict resolution skills, and provide clear, concise, timely, and accurate patient handoff.
  • Promote a culture of safety by recognizing and applying proper safety measures to prevent patient harm, report patient safety events and near misses, and seek to identify potential safety issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Teach, educate, and precept new teammates, orientees, and students.

Required Qualifications

  • Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) within 12 months OR active Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential issued by the NBRC if received prior to January 1, 2023.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
