The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced instructor to join our team as an Adjunct Professor of Astronomy. As a member of our faculty, you will play a critical role in advancing the institution's proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life, and community service.

Highlights
  • Teach a maximum load of contact hours each semester in area(s) of competency
  • Participate as a part-time instructor in the activities of the department, division, and college
  • Develop and use a syllabus for each course within college, discipline, and departmental guidelines
  • Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course objectives
  • Keep accurate student records and submit related reports and forms within requested timelines
Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Teaching courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional needs
  • Using equipment and facilities responsibly and courteously
  • Demonstrating competence and interest in the use of technology in the classroom
  • Providing access to students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods
  • Providing advice and assistance to students regarding instructional or program-specific issues
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning and must have completed at least eighteen (18) graduate hours in Astronomy
  • Minimum of one (1) year of college-level teaching experience preferred
  • Knowledge and skill in a variety of computer usage and software are required, including Blackboard Vista, or similar online software
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse professional, community, and student population
