Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Field Service Technician is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs on complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems across a range of rental and customer equipment. This role requires a high level of independent judgment and is primarily conducted at various off-site locations.

The technician will engage directly with customers, providing exceptional service while inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel-powered heavy machinery and related components, adhering to established procedures and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding equipment issues and recommend appropriate repair solutions, ensuring customer approval before proceeding with parts orders.
  • Prepare machinery for service by following proper safety protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and failures efficiently.
  • Disassemble and reassemble machine components according to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Rebuild, repair, and maintain machinery and its components to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain positive customer relations by addressing their needs and communicating effectively with shop management.
  • Plan and manage the costs associated with repair jobs.
  • Complete parts orders and manage returns as necessary.
  • Ensure company equipment is maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, working safely at all times.
  • Be available for overtime work as required by workload and customer demands.
  • Enhance job knowledge through participation in educational opportunities, such as ProTech Technician Training Paths.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of dirt-engaging equipment, aerial lifts, and related machinery.
  • Familiarity with tools and machinery, including their design, usage, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to conduct quality control analysis through testing and inspections.
  • Skills in operating and controlling equipment and systems.
  • Competence in selecting appropriate tools and equipment for various tasks.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination for precise movements.
  • Strong reading comprehension and listening skills for understanding technical information.

Education and Experience:

  • Preferred: Over eight years of relevant experience in the field.
  • Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent, or completion of a trade school program.

Supervisory Role:

  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may serve as a mentor for junior technicians.

Travel Requirements:

  • Frequent travel to customer locations is necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and move objects, utilizing abdominal and lower back muscles for support.
  • Regularly handle materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Constant movement and dexterity are required for this position.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights safely.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and respond to visual and auditory signals.

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed indoors around moving mechanical parts and may involve exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Noise levels can be high at times.
  • May encounter small quantities of chemicals and high-pressure equipment.
  • Significant time may be spent in confined or elevated spaces.
