The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in automotive technology, excellent teaching skills, and the ability to develop and implement engaging curriculum.

This is a full-time position with an estimated salary of $67,691 - $114,979 based on experience.

Job Description

New River Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education located in Dublin, Virginia. We are dedicated to providing students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their chosen careers.

The Automotive Instructor will be responsible for teaching a minimum of 15 semester hours per year, developing courses, and maintaining a commitment to student retention and success.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Providing leadership for the Automotive Analysis and Repair program
  • Teaching automotive technology courses
  • Maintaining a minimum of 10 student engagement hours per week
  • Writing and revising course plans
  • Developing online, hands-on, hybrid, and hyflex courses
  • Assisting in the acquisition of instructional materials and supplies
  • Recommending curriculum changes to upgrade and integrate students' learning
  • Developing and implementing student retention and success initiatives
  • Working with student services advisors to provide holistic support and advising
  • Participating in department, division, and college discussions, meetings, and initiatives
Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Associate degree in automotive technology or related field; or high school diploma with a minimum of 15 years of experience
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified master automobile technician
  • Minimum of five years of current occupational experience in the automotive or related industry
  • Commitment to the community college mission
  • Ability to communicate effectively in teaching/learning situations both orally and in written form
  • Commitment to innovative teaching approaches, including use of technology as a teaching and learning tool
  • Fairness and flexibility in understanding and working with a wide variety of students
Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in automotive technology or related field
  • Previous record of teaching excellence to include effective communication in teaching/learning situations
